Garage Door Panel Replacement in Round Rock, TX
One bad section does not always mean a new door. When the model is still in production and nothing else on the door is failing, swapping the damaged panel is usually the better money.
When Garage Door Panel Replacement Makes Sense
Garage door panel replacement is worth it when the damage stops at one or two sections, the model is still made, and nothing else on the door is failing. A single steel section fitted in Round Rock runs $300 to $750, an insulated one $400 to $850. Once three or more sections are damaged, or the model is discontinued, a new door usually costs little more and fits properly.
A sectional door is usually four panels stacked on hinges, five on an 8 foot door. Each one is a separate part with its own model number, profile and color, which is what makes swapping one possible. It is also what makes it fail: a section from a different production run, a different profile or a faded original can leave a mismatched stripe across the front of the house.
Panel or New Door? Read Across the Row
| Situation | Panel replacement | New door |
|---|---|---|
| One dented or cracked section, model still made | Usually the right call | Overkill |
| Bottom section rusted through, rest sound | Usually the right call | Worth pricing if the door is past 20 years |
| Two sections damaged | Often still cheaper | Compare both quotes |
| Three or more sections damaged | Rarely worth it | Usually the right call |
| Model discontinued or color faded badly | Mismatch likely | Usually the right call |
| Door hit hard, track and struts bent | Only if the track and struts are replaced too | Often simpler |
A guide, not a rule. The model sticker, the age of the door and the price of the section decide it, and we will give you both numbers when it is close.
Dented panel after a storm?
Read us the model number off the end-stile sticker; a same-day answer on matching is normal.
Call (512) 778-8716Getting the Section to Match
The information we need is usually on a sticker on the end stile, the vertical edge of a section, or stamped on the back of the door: manufacturer, model and color. From that we can tell whether the section is still made, whether it is a single layer or insulated, and what the lead time is. Photos of the sticker and of the front of the door get most of the answer before we come out.
Color is the hard part. A white door that has faced west for fifteen summers is no longer the white it left the factory as, and a brand new section can look brighter than its neighbors. Where fading is bad, painting the whole door after the swap, or replacing the door, is the honest advice.
Weight matters too. An insulated section is heavier than a single-layer one, and springs are sized to the door's weight. DASMA's data sheet on spring cycle life is clear that a spring lifting more than it was sized for wears out early, so the springs get checked and re-tensioned after any section change.
Hail, Bumpers and the Bottom Section
Most sections we replace here were damaged in one of three ways. Spring hailstorms dent the thin steel skin, and If an insurer wants the storm date, the hail reports logged by NOAA's Storm Prediction Center will show it. Bumpers and bins take out the bottom section. And water standing at the slab rusts the bottom edge from the inside until it perforates.
One note on hail claims: a door damaged on its own often falls under the deductible, so get the section priced before filing. If the roof and the siding were hit too, the door usually goes on the same claim, and the estimate we write names the door model, the damaged sections and the photos, which is what an adjuster needs.
A door with a cracked or bent section should not be run hard. A section that is folding can bind in the track and throw rollers out, and the strut that stiffens a wide door may already be bent. If a section is visibly creased, run the door gently or leave it closed until it is looked at.

Panel Replacement Questions
How much does garage door panel replacement cost in Round Rock?
A single steel section fitted runs $300 to $750, and an insulated section $400 to $850. The door model, section position and whether struts or brackets need replacing move the figure.
Can I replace just one panel of my garage door?
Usually, as long as the model is still produced and the rest of the door holds up. Each section is a separate part. The sticker on the end stile tells us the model and whether a matching section is available.
Will a new garage door panel match the rest of the door?
It matches in profile and factory color. On a door that has faded in the sun, a new section can look brighter, and painting the whole door or replacing it may be the better answer.
Is it cheaper to replace a panel or the whole garage door?
One or two sections are almost always cheaper to replace. At three or more damaged sections, or with a discontinued model, a new door costs little more and avoids a mismatch.
Does hail damage to a garage door fall under homeowners insurance?
Hail is generally a covered peril on Texas homeowner policies, but a door alone may not clear the deductible. Price the repair first, and include the door if other parts of the house were damaged too.
